Working mainly in oils, with occasional explorations in watercolor, she paints both on location and in her home studio. Christal has participated in numerous art exhibits and currently shows in island galleries. For the past 14 years, she has also been a working member of the Kailua Village Artists Gallery in Kailua-Kona, where she shares her work and connection to Hawai‘i with visitors and the local community.
She also travels to France and Italy to paint at art retreats, expanding a vivid portfolio that bridges the spirit of Hawai‘i with the timeless beauty of Europe.

Christal Nylin has been a resident of Hawai‘i Island since 1978. She first set up her easel in 2007 and has since become a dedicated, primarily self-taught artist, learning through plein air painting groups, mentors, workshops, and online resources..
The Big Island, abundant in beauty and history, continues to inspire her work. With over four decades of living in Hawai‘i, Christal has cultivated a deep connection to the land, its stories, and its spirit. Her painterly realistic style reflects her passion for old-style Hawaiian architecture, often evoking a sense of nostalgia. Hawai‘i’s rich culture and diverse landscape—ocean shorelines, lava flows, birds, trees, sunsets, and historic places—provide endless inspiration. Her Kona coffee images honor the heritage and culture of the local coffee industry, celebrating a tradition deeply rooted in the land.
